Most Medical Sales Positions Require A College Degree

I was speaking to this lady yesterday about pharmaceutical and medical sales positions.  She was describing her business background which seemed good but she was worried that she lacked a medical background.  I told her that’s okay because if she’s trainable and has superior communications skills, companies would be willing to train her.

I then asked her if she has a college degree. She said no.  I told her that most pharmaceutical and medical sales positions these days do require a college degree of some type.  The degree it self doesn’t necessarily have to be in science but companies will expect a degree.  There might be the odd position out there, perhaps inside sales or a customer support function that doesn’t require a degree but the medical sales positions dealing with health professionals will require one.  So this individual was advised to pursue a college degree if she’s serious about pharmaceutical or medical sales.
