Pharmaceutical Sales or Medical Device Sales?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Someone recently asked which career would be better, one in pharmaceutical sales or medical device sales. They are different even though both are in the health care field. Both areas can involve physicians as customers but for medical devices, the customer base would involve more than just doctors and more types of individuals than compared to pharmaceutical sales. The salary structure is also different.

To get the best answer, it is best for somebody who is interested in these careers to speak to reps who are already working in these fields. Even shadow them for a day at work if possible to get an idea of what their jobs are like. This will give you a true accurate view of whether you would like these careers or not.

For pharmaceuticals, different areas within drug sales are in an article about Pharmaceutical Sales Jobs.

Traveling During Winter Months For Drug Representative Jobs

Monday, January 21st, 2008

For those who are located in the northern US states or in Canada and want to become drug representatives, one thing to keep in mind is that traveling out in the roads plus in and out of medical offices all day long during the cold winter months are a fact of life. This I remember quite vividly during my years as a drug representative.

You must be willing to accept this as part of the job if you are going after a drug rep career especially in the winter snow regions. There are other factors to consider as well to determine some of the realities of the job. See these at Attributes Required For Pharmaceutical Representatives.

Medical Sales Positions With Over the Counter Products

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Those who are hoping to enter the medical sales field should consider jobs that involve promoting over the counter (OTC) products. In many cases, these medical sales positions are easier to get than those involving prescription drugs and therefore represent excellent entry level jobs into the industry.

Some medical fields such as pediatrics and dermatology as well as family medicine, involve a great deal of over the counter products that do not require prescriptions.

Those who work in medical sales positions with primarily OTC products will have excellent experience to move over to prescription drug representative positions if they wish. See more details in Medical Sales Positions With OTCs.

Wishes She Had This Pharmaceutical Sales Jobs Book Before Interview With Pfizer

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Here’s what Cheyenne Winters of Texas writes about the book “How To Get A Dream Job In Pharmaceutical Sales – Direct Inside Advice and Guidance from a Sales Manager“;

“How To Get A Dream Job In Pharmaceutical Sales has been truly beneficial in aiding my quest to be a pharmaceutical representative. I found the examples and explanations for styles of resumes and cover letter information most helpful. My previous resume just wasn’t an adequate representation of my sales and public speaking qualities. The chapters on information interviews and telephone interviews were vital.”

Cheyenne goes to add;

“I really wish I would have had this information prior to my first phone interview with Pfizer. I would recommend this book to anyone who was changing career paths. It is a step-by-step, easy to read manual that illustrates how to make a smooth transition from any career to one in pharmaceutical sales.”

It’s too bad that she didn’t get the book before her Pfizer interview but now that she has learned from this book and even benefited from a custom resume evaluation by its author Clint Cora, Cheyenne is now in a much better position to continue with her search for a pharmaceutical sales job.
