Too Many Sales Job Resumes At Human Resources Departments

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I was talking to someone who went to a networking meeting at the University of Toronto the other day and he told me that a few graduates sent in their resumes to the pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca. They sent their resumes to the Human Resources department. This person I talked to told me that he heard from a contact at the Human Resources department say that they get tons of resumes that come in every day. It was no surprise that these graduates said that they were getting nowhere with their applications.

This is yet another example of why submitting to HR often ends up with very poor results for sales job applicants. There are just too many other resumes being thrown in at the same time at HR. Too much competition in order to get yourself noticed.

This is why as a former hiring sales manager, I always recommend using alternative routes directly to the people who have the power to hire you for new sales jobs. Go to pharmaceuticals sales jobs for more details.

Weekend Public Speaking Skills at Mississauga Toronto Toastmasters Club

Monday, September 17th, 2007

I’ve mentioned on various occasions that improving public speaking skills through Toastmasters clubs will definitely help many people in getting pharmaceutical sales jobs (as well as other positions that require good communications skills).

For those in the Mississauga and Toronto area looking for Toastmasters clubs but can’t find any time during the work week, there’s a new Toastmasters club in Mississauga that meets twice per month on Saturday mornings. The name of this club is Comfortably Speaking Toastmasters and they meet at 9:30 am during the first and third Saturdays of each month.

If you can benefit from learning great communications as well as leadership skills and have nothing better to do on lazy Saturday mornings, go and check out this great Mississauga Toronto public speaking skills resource. There’s no more excuse for not being able to attend a Toastmasters meeting during the week since there is now a weekend alternative for the Mississauga and Toronto communities.

Can A Science Teacher Become A Drug Representative?

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

I had an inquiry from a science teacher this week and she asked if it was possible for someone with her background (with no prior sales experience) to become a drug representative. Why not?

Although in some instances it might be harder for those with no past sales backgrounds to become drug representatives, it is certainly not impossible. I know of many drug representatives, and very successful ones, who didn’t have past sales jobs. If your communications skills are good and you are willing to learn sales, then you could become a drug representative. In this particular case, the science teacher has the added knowledge of scientific concepts already which companies will acknowledge.

My book, “How To Get A Dream Job In Pharmaceutical Sales – Direct Inside Advice and Guidance from a Sales Manager” contains specific strategies and examples for those who never had sales experience. As long as your communications skills are good and you could prove it, them you will always have a chance in becoming a drug representative. Of course, a resource like my book will help you break into the industry in a more effective manner.
