How To Write A Resume – The Wrong Way!

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

So far, a lot of people have been very surprised about the article How To Write A Resume – The Wrong Way! since the opening is so typical of what many folks will write in their own resumes.

Of course, I’m not surprised about the reaction. However, the name of the game in job hunting is to stand out from the crowd. If one writes very similar text to what 90% of job applicants out there are doing, then only cookie cutter resumes will result. Your own resume will be lost among the thousands of other resumes.

Clever job applicants know how to differentiate themselves from all others in order to get noticed and get called for job interviews. The website GetPharmaceuticalSalesJob.com explores this concept in more detail for the pharmaceutical sales field. But take a look at the article mentioned in the first paragraph and see if that is you.

Got A Few Offers For Pharmaceutical Sales Jobs!

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

I’m always excited to read customer testimonials especially from those who got job offers for pharmaceutical sales jobs when they followed the advice given in my book, “How To Get A Dream Job In Pharmaceutical Sales = Direct Advice and Guidance from a Sales Manager”.

In Sagar Desai’s case, he got few job offers! This is what he wrote;

“I would just like to thank you and commend you on such a well described book. This book has helped me prepare myself better for interviews and has given me a head start with the knowledge that I have gained.”

“I have been on a few interviews so far and I also have a few offers which I will evaluate before I take one! This book gave me options, which is a GREAT FEELING! Thank you Clint!”

Wouldn’t you like to be in this situation too? Read more about the details of both my book and audio program for getting pharmaceutical sales jobs to find out how.

Hiring A Resume Writer For Pharmaceutical Sales Resume?

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Should you hire a professional resume writer for a pharmaceutical sales resume? One customer’s resume I evaluated was indeed a professional written one that was done for $300. Sure it looked pretty good visually but when I read the text, it was very generic.

The resume did not make the candidate stand out from the others at all. In order to get a resume that does stand out and captures all the skills you are trying to convey, you really should be writing your own document. You have to utilize your own success stories and by the time you write them out, you would have completed much of your resume already. Why waste $300 for somebody else to write what you already have?

Don’t take any short cuts to writing a proper, effective resume. It is too important. This is why Pharmaceutical Sales Resumes are a big component of my educational program.

How To Write A Resume – Is This You?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

“I am highly motivated, energetic and hard working. I have exceptional communications skills both verbally and written. I am analytical and well organized. I am able to work independently and in teams … I am seeking a position in a dynamic company such as yours … please contact me so that we can discuss an opportunity.”

Is this you? More importantly, is this pretty well what you would write in your own cover letter and resume? Well guess what’s wrong with this?

At least 90% of all applicants out there will be writing something very similar. Everyone is claiming to be motivated, organized and hard working. I know this for a fact because I have reviewed hundreds of resumes when I was national sales manager for a pharmaceutical company. They all look the same.

You may very well be highly motivated, organized and all the other desired character traits that companies want but if your cover letters and resumes contain just generic claims like the first paragraph above, they are basically claims without any proof.

What you have written does NOT make you stand out from the rest of the crowd of applicants. Your chances of getting picked for interviews will just be as slim as all the others.

To get noticed from a gigantic pile of resumes is not an easy feat but it is possible if you know how to differentiate yourself. Successful people who have entered and risen through their chosen industries were not simply just lucky to get selected from the resume stack of hundreds. They knew what to write in order to maximize their chances of getting in.

You too can be in this enviable position if you get the proper knowledge on how to set yourself apart. The best way to get this knowledge is to learn from those who are already successful in the field you want to get into.

See my short video at the left side of this blog to see and hear me talk about just how important this concept is for your pharmaceutical sales job search.

Don’t just apply like everyone else. Set yourself apart!

Book Helps New Graduate Get Pharmaceutical Sales Job

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Here’s an example where the book “How To Get A Dream Job In Pharmaceutical Sales – Direct Inside Advice and Guidance from a Sales Manager” helped a recent graduate land a job in pharma sales. Andy Yuen of Toronto writes;

“After working at the pharmacy for a year (after graduation), I decided that I do not want to be a pill counter for the rest of my life. I started researching for a career that has a science component and sales component, which of course, became pharmaceutical sales.”

“I had no idea about the industry and what kind of potential this career will hold for me. As I was doing research online, Clint’s site came across my Google search. I was skeptical at first because I did not know if I wanted to pay for this online book, at the same time, Clint offers resume evaluation along with the book. I knew my resume did not look good … if I can get a better understanding of the pharmaceutical sales industry and have my resume looked at, it would be a good investment. Clint gave me good advice on how I can improve my resume.”

“After reading the entire package, I have a better understanding of the whole situation, and I started developing my network in my area. Eventually I got hired by a small pharmaceutical contracting company and started my pharmaceutical career. After working at this company, I developed the experience that allows me to get interviews with the big players in the industry. Without Clint’s book, I wouldn’t know where to begin.”

For more information on this book and to read what others are saying about it, see Pharmaceutical Sales Careers.
