Medical Sales Job for Nurses

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Having stayed at hospitals before for knee surgeries, I can appreciate some of the things that nurses have to go through during their shifts. I remember for my last hospital stay a few years ago, I was put in the same ward as the orthopedic ward where there were quite a few senior patients.

One of my nurses during the day shift was also assigned a senior patient a few doors down the hall. This patient unfortunately could not go to the washroom by herself and often defecated in her bed. The stink was pretty bad on the entire floor if this situation was left unattended. This poor nurse had to go clean up after this patient all the time.

After some of the floor’s nurses found out that I was working in the medical sales field at that time, a few of them came over and picked my brain about the industry. They obviously wanted to see if there were other careers available for them with no more cleaning of bedpans as part of the job.

A medical sales job for nurses would be a great match provided that the individual had great communications skills and an aptitude for sales. It would certainly be no more night shifts. For more informtion on the possibility of this new career, see the article on Medical Sales Job for Nurses.

Resume for Professional Healthcare Sales

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

The article that shows the fine example of an effective resume for professional healthcare sales is divided into three different parts in order to reproduce distinct sections of the resume on separate webpages. While the part 1 looks at the introduction of the resume, part 2 shows the work history section of this resume for professional healthcare sales such as pharmaceuticals. There are links from the different parts to the next one and back. Compiled together, the actual resume sample fits nicely into two standard pages on paper.

This resume example is indeed for seasoned professional healthcare sales representatives since it highlights industry experience. For candidates wishing to get their first jobs in pharma healthcare sales, a better resource would be Clint Cora’s “How To Get A Dream Job In Pharmaceutical Sales – Direct Inside Advice and Guidance from a Sales Manager”.

Posted Some New Responses on PharmBoard

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I posted some new responses on PharmBoard today but I noticed that the new website has been slower since it was launched. I also noticed that not as many people are posting on its forum. There might be a technical glitch there which is too bad because I do feel that it is the best discussion forum on getting into pharmaceutical sales.

Nurses in Medical Sales Jobs

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Another nurse working in a community hospital asked me the other day about what medical sales jobs were like. Like many nurses, she is tired of the long shifts, having to work solid weekends at times, the labour involved and the sometimes nasty politics that can occur at hospitals.

I gave her my thoughts on the industry and mentioned to her that I have met many successful pharmaceutical sales reps who were former nurses. I even had one under my management when I was a sales manager.

I also told her that she should take a look at my article on Nurses in Medical Sales Jobs which will give a nice overview about possible career changes too.

More information is also available on medical sales careers.

Starting Salary For Pharmaceutil Drug Sales Representative

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

One of the questions I’ve been asked by people interested in pharmaceutical sales is what would be the typical starting salary for a pharmaceutil drug sales representative. Each pharma company has an established salary scale that takes into account the new rep’s experience, education and other factors.

For a recent university or college graduate with no prior experience in sales of any kind, a starting salary could be in the mid $30,000s to $40,000s. People who have been working in some sort of sales field could negotiate to the higher end of the starting salary range.

After a few successful years of working in pharmaceutical drug sales, reps can find their salaries in the $50,000 to $70,000 range. Bonuses for high performers can push overall incomes to six figures.

The other benefits including use of company cars will be worth several thousand dollars as well. So it is important not to get too upset if a starting salary happens to be a bit low because the rewards will add up quickly in bonuses and with years of service to a company.

It is much more important to get a foot into the door and build up from there if one really wants to break into the pharmaceutical sales field. Established drug sales representatives can always jump to other companies if not satisfied with current income levels.

So to help break into the industry, see pharmaceutical drug sales careers.
